Paris August 26, 1945 V-Mail Dear Mom, After much difficulty I finally got here. Had to wait from Sunday until Friday at the airfield to get a plane. They I didn't get one as far as Paris, but rode with some WACS and a couple of officers on a special plane to Compiegne. From there we rode a mail truck in a wild ride which served only to give me a infected right eye from the dust. It's been very sore and bothered so much that I couldn't enjoy doing anything. I've had it treated now and it is coming along quite well, but is still very inflamed and runny. Starting tomorrow, I hope to get to see a few of the things I missed before. For the past few days the French have been celebrating the liberation of Paris last year. They've had street days in various sections of the town, parades (which I have missed) and last night a dance and celebration in the Opera House which lasted until six this morning. Bob |
